Grants For Older People

THE L M KENDON SETTLEMENT

We Are Here for Our Elderly

The Kendon family was a prominent and influential presence in the East London property world for more than a century, during which they built a substantial fortune. In 1977, Mrs. Lillian M. Kendon established a charitable settlement to support elderly residents of what is now the London Borough of Newham.

A few years later, her son Edwin and his wife Christine passed away without children. They bequeathed all their property and financial assets to the L. M. Kendon Settlement, enabling the charity to grow into the organisation it is today.

For many years, the charity owned and operated a nursing home and a high dependency sheltered housing scheme in Forest Gate and Stratford. Over time, as community needs and circumstances changed, the charity transitioned from direct service provision to grant-making. It now provides financial support to charities within the London Borough of Newham that share the Settlement’s aims and values.
